Mirage Fishing Report Recap for June 27th

Yesterday we had one of our filming trips aboard the Mirage out of Oxnard, the ride out to the island was a little lumpy, the weather was perfect by the time we started to fish. It was by no means a wide open trip, but it was a good one. We ended the day with several nice white sea bass and a four large halibut, with the jackpot fish coming in at 47 pounds!, it was the last fish landed for the day. Fish we taken on both B52 bucktails with a squid pinned on or with dropper loop rig.

My next filming trip is this Sunday aboard the Westerly and my next private charter is this Sat. For details please visit my website.

Patriot Fishing Trip Report

This past Saturday, June 2nd we had a filming. fishing charter aboard the Patriot out of Avila Beach Sport Fishing in Central CA. This was a crab and rock fish combo trip. I had never done a trip like this before so I wanted to try it out. We left the pier at 7AM and ran straight to the crab pots, the traps had enough in them that we only hit about eight of them, all but one were filled with crabs. After that it off fishing. We started out in 225 feet of water, I landed most of my fish with a double dropper loop rig with two 1/2oz B 52 bucktails, pinned with a strip of squid. fishing was only OK at best. We had lots of wind and a large swell, there was nothing the crew could do, Jay the skipper told me he couldn't get to the areas he wanted to fish. Everyone left the boat with 5 crabs each and most anglers had about a half limit on the rock fish.

On the way home we surf fished at Santa Barbara, it as pretty wide open, I had over 30 fish in less then an hour!

Yesterday's Charter Aboard the Sea Star

Yesterday we had a filming/ fishing charter with Capt. Joe aboard the Sea Star. He didn't want to head north for the White Sea Bass, because we didn't have any live squid and there would be a ton of boats up there so we headed south. We went all the way down toward Solano Beach, we only made one move all day and that was a short move too. We had a great bite on both calico bass and rock fish, we also landed a 33 pound halibut and dumped a few others, we saw a bunch a yellows in the water and i was able to hook one, but dumped it in the kelp. most of the fish on this trip were taken on dead squid, I used a 1oz B 52 bucktail with a whole dead squid for most of the day, that's what I hooked my yellow on. We also had a 150 pound black sea bass that was of course released unharmed. The water was 67 and blue. Fishing down in the North SD area is ready to exploded! Our next trip with open spots in June 10th aboard the Native Son out of long Beach.
