our warm weather

finally we are getting warm weather and the fishing is starting to improve along our coast. there is good bite finally on calico bass, anglers are seeing a lot of thresher sharks around and hopefully the tuna will start to bite again very soon. I now it'll be Oct in a few days, but don't put your fishing tackle away just yet.

New in - Store seminar dates

I have seminars coming up every week in Oct. check our website and face book page for upcoming seminar dates and locations.

Another tip

talking to guys up north they are using small hooks, they say they are having better luck with size 2 hooks, I usually use rather large hook like a size 2/0-3/0 when I'm fishing for white sea bass. If you're having problems getting them to bite you might want to try using a smaller hook.

Tip for White Sea Bass

Here in southern Cal we usually catch all our white sea bass closer to the ocean floor that to the surface. Up in Monterrey they are getting all their fish up close to the surface just fly lining their squid. you might want to try fishing this way here in So. cal too.

White Sea Bass!!!!

on our way home from Emeryville we stopped off at Monterrey to take a look around. As we walked over to the boat ramp I noticed that every boat had some white sea bass. some of these fish we monsters. most of the fish were in the 30- 50 pound range, with several over 60 pounds! the locals told me that this bite has been going on for several months now. they don't even have live squid up there to fish with, all they use is dead squid and the fly line them too, no sinkers. I'm hoping to get up there later this week and try it out for myself.

New Salmon Queen fish report

Sunday we fished with Shim aboard the New Salmon Queen out of Emeryville Sport Fishing. The weather was a little wet, we had rain all morning, but the afternoon was nice and dry. we started off fishing along the beach, just north of the bay. There we landed several nice size halibut. we ended the day over at the islands for nice rock fish. it's always nice to fish up here, I really enjoy both the New Salmon Queen and the New Huck Finn.

Tuna Fishing Tip

if you are heading out for tuna this weekend on your own boat here's a fishing tip for you. Most years it's easy to catch a tuna on your own boat, you just troll around until your find some hungry fish. This year that will not work. You need to use your fish finder, find a school of fish, get out a little bit in front of them and then stop your boat and start fishing with bait. toss out a little chum and see if you can get the fish to bite. If you see that the fish have stopped and are holding under and around your boat then don't move, wait them out for at least 30 minutes. You need to slow down if you want to catch a tuna this year. Try this out this weekend and you just might catch a few fish. Good luck!
