B-52 Bucktails

We just got done with both of the Fred Hall shows and the one fishing question I heard the most is why do you always fish with a bucktail jig? The simple answer is because they work. I use them many different ways, from fishing for calico in heavy kelp to tuna fish offshore. We have a new program that will air either this week or next filmed aboard the Outridder out of 22nd Street landing in San Pedro. I that show you'll see what I mean. I land a lot of calico bass and even a nice size yellowtail too, all on a B-52 bucktail jig. you should have several of them in your tackle box.

Just a quick reminder that the Del Mar Fred Hall show starts tomorrow. if you go make sure you stop by our booth and say hi to Larry and me. Also I wanted you all to know that several of the boats that finally made it to San Clemente Island over the weekend found lots of yellowtail there, even a few of the boat landed some nice size white sea bass too. If the weather stays good look for the fishing to get red hot very soon.

We only have one spot left on or first charter of the year on April 3rd, but we still have plenty of room on the rest of our April fishing charters. just visit our website for all the details.

Yellowtail are biting

Just in case you haven't heard the news, yellows have been biting for a while along the San Diego coastline and even better down toward Ensenada, Mexico. One of my friends who lives part time down there has been reporting very good yellowtail action in the bay and also at Todo Santo Island. Since Jan anglers have scoring on nice size yellows down around San Martin Island and now that the weather is getting warm and the water is getting warmer, look for our local island yellowtail action to take off soon. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the boats find great yellowtail action this weekend.

Now that rock fish season is open and the water is getting warmer there is no reason not to get out on the water this weekend. Get out there and have some fun! Just as a reminder next wed, will be the start of the Fred Hall Show in Del Mar. I'll have a booth there so make sure you come by and say hi.

First Filming Trip of the Year

Our first fishing trip is coming up fast and with the weather getting so warm it looks like this is going to be a great trip. Our charter is for Saturday April 3rd aboard the Outidder out of 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro. Yellowtail fishing has been pretty good the last two weeks and as the water warms up look for the fishing get even hotter. Our plans are o target both White sea bass and yellows on this trip. This is a very limited load trip, we are only taking nine (9) anglers with us and yes we will be filming this for TV too.

You can sign up for this trip and all our charters on my website at www.sport-fishing.com. If you have any questions feel free to call Larry our charter master at 562-221-1278.

Lobster Fishing

Lobster fishing is coming to an end next week and I just wanted to remind you all to get out there one more time before it's over. This season has been a great one for me. This is the first season that I have been doing it without the help of the experts from Promar and I haven't had any trouble doing it and finding the lobsters.

a few things to remember, only use fresh bait. and second, you don't need to be right on top of the rocks to find them. some of the best lobster fishing I did this season was in the mud about 50 feet from the rock piles I was fishing. When they want to crawl they will find your baits.

The weather for this weekend looks great so get out and get some lobsters before it's all over.

Trout Fishing

Yesterday Larry and I went fishing with a bunch of guys from a fishing club we both belong to, the Eastside Rod & Reel Fishing Club. The event was at Laguna Niguel lake. We did have a lot of luck fishing. I saw a few anglers land a few trout off the shore while Larry and I where fishing for a rented boat. This is a small lake so you can't use your own boat and all the boat here only have small electric motors.
around 9 AM made a move over to the north west edge of the lake and these we finally caught a few trout. I land three and Larry landed two. He had the largest one, it weighed 1 1/2 pounds. The hot bait for the day was white Power bait.

With only two weeks left in lobster fishing season, I plan to get out there at least twice next week. This week I'll be at the Fred Hall Boat and Fishing show in Long Beach.
