Lobster Fishing Last Night

With Thanksgiving over and the temps at night staying in the 50's I thought I better get out and do some lobster fishing just for the fun of it. The weather was perfect, but the hooping stared off very slow. It was low tide when we got to the fishing grounds at 5PM, it wasn't until 8PM that we got our first legal of the night, from 9-10:30 we did great! We ended the night with seven (7) legals lobsters, two huge ones and we also had 10 shorts for the night, we released about a dozen crabs too. Our bait was salmon heads and we fished in less then 30 feet of water. Next week I have two lobster charters already booked, I have room for this Sunday night if anyone wants to go.

Ranger 85 Fishing Report - Channel Islands

We had a great fishing trip last Friday aboard the Ranger 85, we had to fight high winds and seas, but we did catch a lot of fish. Because of the winds we couldn't go any farther than Santa Rosa Island. There we found lots of hungry rock fish. Most of the fish we taken on live sardines and cut squid, we did have one spot where we were able to anchor up for a while and there we were able to fish with jigs and bucktails. At the spot I landed two legal lings and two nice reds on a 6 oz.B 52 bucktail with a red twin tail bait pinned on with strips of squid. The skipper did a great job putting us on fish in there tough conditions. besides the high winds and swell we also had a very strong current. You can see more pictures from this trip on our Face Book fan page. Our last trip of the year is aboard the Indain in a few weeks, it's sold out.

Long Beach Fishing Report

Over the weekend 11/12 & 11/13 I had two private fishing charters. The charter for saturday I tried to cancel and change to another date because of the weather, but the people said no, they really wanted to go out fishing, even if it rained. we had ugly weather, there were six foot wave at the entrance of the harbor! wind started around 15 knots and by 10 AM it was 25 plus, with gust over 35. We spend most of the day back inside the harbor catching lizard fish and tomcod and I was happy we caught them.

Sunday the weather was much better, no wind, but there still was a swell, we fished the breakwater the whole 1/2 day trip. The first two hours we drfited outside waiting for the swell to drop down and for the current to change finally around 10:30 things were safe enough that I could anchor up along the wall. For this trip I had three young men with me, two 14 year olds and one 15. These guys had done a lot of fishing already, but fishing the wall was new to them. Most of the fish were taken on anchoives, but our biggest fish of the day were taken on 1/2oz.  B 52 buctails with a strip of squid pinned on. We ended the day with a mix of calico's, sand bass and a several nice cabazons. The boys were every good about releasing the bass, but I did let them keep two each because they were planing on having a big fish fry following weekend. These kids where a lot of fun to fish with and it was fun to work with them one on one and teach them a few things about fishing.

East Cape trip recap

Today was our last day down here, I wouldn't call it wide open fishing, but there were a lot of nice fish down here. Day one I landed a 100 pound sailfish and had a short strike on a blue marlin right next to the boat and had another marlin hit a Zuker on the outrigger, but it didn't eat the lure. I must of seen 15-20 marlin and sailfish landed on day one, the fish where on one small bank and the weather was perfect, all of the action was only about two miles off the beach and close to the hotel. Day two was blown out, but day there was great. The Valdez brothers were not sure about the weather so they took us all to San Jose del Cabo and put us on their boats out of there. Here we landed several nice dorado, some skipjack and other guys with us got a few yellowfin, I got lucky hooked up with a nice 35-40 pound wahoo. We had two other wahoo bites, but I only landed that one. The weather done here was perfect,
One other thing that I'd like to share is that the sailfish was taken in 300 feet and the water temp was 87 degrees. Everything at Hotel Buena Vista was great. My group had a great time, the weather was perfect and the food was great. I'll be back here next Aug.
