New world record halibut!
A German fisherman has smashed the halibut world weight record with this 38-and-a-half stone monster caught in the north of Norway. Reinhard Wuhrmann, 62, fought with the monster from the deep for three hours before he and three other fishermen finally landed it. The fish was so big that at one point Reinhard's rod snapped in two. The men were only able to haul it onto their boat after tying a rope around it when it came alongside. The 8ft 3ins Atlantic halibut tipped the scales at just over 540 pounds (245kg) - smashing the previous world record by 58lbs.
