Getting ready for the East Cape, Mexico

Tomorrow I have to get everything ready for my East Cape trip on Thursday. We'll be staying at Hotel Buena Vista in the East Cape, all the reports sound great, lots for marlin and dorado, plus large schools of roosterfish too. I'll get all the camera gear together and Larry will pack all my fishing tackle. I'll try to send you reports from Mexico.

Trout Fishing Trip

Just got back from three days of fishing up in the Bishop CA area. Fishing the first day was a little slow, but the next two days were awesome. The float trip down the Owens River is something everyone should try, I caught all of my fish on the river on Gulp eggs and PowerBait worms. The best color was white, I'm not sure why, but white eggs with a white worm was by far the best bait to use. The Gulp and Power Bait out fished everyone in our group. I can't wait to get back up there.

Today Larry, Greg and I worked on my boat. We replaced the whole steering system with and new hydraulic system made by Sea Star. I can't believe what a difference it has made to my boat. We filmed the whole install for television and we plan to post them it up on You Tube too.

We had our first fishing charter of the year last Saturday. fishing was a little slow, but the weather was perfect. Calicos bit pretty good all day long. This halibut was the largest fish of the trip. Make sure to sign up soon for our next trip. I just wanted to thank everyone from the San Diego Rod and Reel Fishing Club for inviting me to speak at the May Club meeting. You all have a great and very large club, it was great to hear that so many of you watch my TV program every week.

Surf Fishing

Last Sunday Larry and I fished in a surf fishing event for a fishing club we belong to. We started out fishing up by Ventura but the water was dirty so we worked our way south. The fishing was slow but at Zuma beach we found nice clear water and II was able to land four perch using Gulp for bait. I ended up winning the event. It wasn't a huge fish, but large enough to win on this day. For those of you who want to go fishing and not spend a lot of money, you should try surf fishing it's a lot of fun!
