I just got in from our 1.5 day tuna trip aboard then Eclipse, it was a great trip, The tuna were not very far, about 60 miles south of SD. we had a boat load of anglers as every spot on the boat was sold. Fishing was good early in the morning and we had another snap on the tuna at sunset, in the middle of the day we trolled and looked for yellows and dorado, we didn't get many of those and most of the yellowtail were small. The tuna, bite best on 25 pound test line and a lively sardine. I hope to post some pictures for you tomorrow. On this trip was my dad, it was his first ever offshore tuna fishing trip, he was able to land two of the four fish that he hooked up, nice job dad. In two weeks we have our last tuna trip of the year, it'll be aboard the Dolphin II out of Fisherman's landing in SD, space is limited so sign up soon.

Yesterday a client hired me to guide him for a day of offshore fishing on his boat, he's had it for four years now, but had never been pass Catalina. As offshore trips go we left the dock late, around 6AM, after a quick stop for bait from Nacho, we headed out at 28 knots to the 14 mile bank, about 3/4 of the way there we spotted a sleeping marlin, buy the time the boat came to a stop the fish had seen us and went deep, we slow trolled a live bait hoping to get lucky, but we didn't. At the 14 mile bank there were six boats stacked up on one patty and many others trolling, I didn't see anyone pulling on anything, the plan was from there to run farther south, but the temp charts showed the warmest water about 8 miles outside of the 277 so we ran there, about 4 miles shy of the bank we trolled again, but nothing. then finally on our 4th kelp patty of the day we spotted dorado jumping out of the water. I had my client slide his boat slowly over to the patty and an explained what to expect, of course everyone forgot and we had a mess. three baits hit the water and all three were eaten up but dorados. it took a while, but we landed all three and hit the patty again and again, we ended up with 14 dorado and lost at least that many, by 1PM the wind was starting to pick up and the fishing was slowing down so we called it a day. 1.5 hours later we were back in the harbor. The hardest part of the day was filleting all the fish. my client was happy with all the fish and he had a learn some boat handling and fishing skills, all in all it was a great day.
We still have room for tomorrow nights tuna trip if you like to join us, it's 290.00 PP.

They still are biting
I just checked all the fishing reports for the coast of CA and it looks so good all along the coast. Tuna are every where from, northern Cal to well below the Mexican boarder, even in WA they are getting tuna. In San Francisco you can pick between rock fish, salmon or tuna, they have it all! Down here in Southern Cal just about every landing has tuna and or dorado in their fish counts, It's been many years since I've seen fish counts like this. Get out there and get in on some of this awesome action.

East Cape Fishing report
I just got back 8/14/12 from four days of fishing in the East Cape out of Hotel Buena Vista. I've been fishing in the East Cape for around 28 years now and it just never gets old. On this trip I did ok, not great, but it was good fishing. I ended my trip with two sailfish, both released, many small dorado and a few nice roosterfish. We saw many more sailfish that just didn't want to eat and we had to offer and two good marlin strikes that we just couldn't hook up. This was a trip that I was hosting as part of my TV program. We 32 people in our group, about half of them from Northern Cal. Several people in our group did really well. One boat had two marlin, 12 tuna and 8 dorado all in the same day! several blue marlin were also landed by my group. Two days ago we heard of a 800 pound blue marlin that was landed in a panga. Fishing in the East Cape is always a fun adventure......

East Cape Trip
Tommorrow I'm off to the East Cape for my who knows how many time? maybe over 100 in the past 28 years? Every trip down there is an adventure, you hope to catch a marlin or too, but it's all the other fish and the people you meet is what makes these trips so specail. I really enjoy fishing in Mexico and the East Cape is specail place for me. there are very few places on Earth where you can catch so many different fish, the resorts are all nice and they have good boats and great crews. I wish more of you were going with me on this trip, i'll post updates for you on our Face Book page.

Recap about yesterday trip aboard the Outrider
Yesterday we had a filming / fishing charter aboard the Outrider. because of the full moon we had a hard time making bait at the island. the weather was perfect, the sea were flat and the water was warm, most of the island it was from 67-69. We had pretty good fishing for calicos at three different spots and we picked away at the barries too. We landed one legal halibut, but no WSB or yellows, it was a nice day to be at the office.
This Sat 8/4 my youth foundation will be hosting a fishing tackle swap meet in the West Marine parking lot in long Beach, please come on out and support us, right now we already have over 33 vendors signed up.
