Here's an update about the Visa's you now need to fish in Mexican waters

Below is a press release that was sent to me about the new Mexican Visa law for all of us fishing in Mexican waters.

MX Tour Assist Delivers Solutions to Travelers Visiting Mexico

San Diego -- Responding to the needs of commercial fishermen and tourists heading to Mexico, a timely, new local business has been established to provide efficient, cost effective and business friendly solutions to complicated entry laws enacted by the Mexican government.

MX Tour Assist, based in San Diego and Tijuana and fully independent of the Mexican government, opened for business January 2012.  It has responded quickly to the new laws that require U.S. citizens and other foreigners to obtain immigration documents for entry into Mexican territory.  MX Tour Assist provides one-stop solutions by offering the right Mexican immigration forms to tourists in advance of their trips, saving them the hassle and delay of executing payment through a Mexican bank and dealing with Mexican border agents.

The new Mexican laws provide tourists with the option to apply for a 1-year Non-Immigrant Immigration Form (FM3) or obtain a Multiple Immigration Form (FMM) for each stay up to 180 days.  MX Tour Assist works closely with Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM) to simplify the application and approval process for the 1-year FM3 permits.

The 1-year FM3 permit is an ideal solution for the frequent cross-border traveler.  Available through MX Tour Assist for $400.00, the permit allows unlimited entry by land, air and sea.  MX Tour meets all requirements ahead of time, and applicants can pick up their permit at the INM office on the Tijuana side of the San Diego-Tijuana border.

Understandably, many anglers and U.S. based firms have complained about the complex, new laws governing entry to Mexico.  In response, Mexican sources argue that the new rules are similar to long-standing U.S. laws that Mexican businesses always have followed.

MX Tour Assist promises reliable service and professional advice to ease any burdens associated with Mexico’s new laws.  It has cooperated with San Diego landings to meet compliance requirements for all crew and passengers.  Now, MX Tour Assist will provide those same services to independent boaters, and offer the convenience of pickup at Kona Kai Marina and at a vessel stationed at the Coronado Islands.

* Advisory: Nothing in this press release constitutes legal advice and MX Tour Assist is not a lawyer nor is it purporting to be an expert on Mexican law.  This press release is not intended to fully advise anyone on the rights and obligations of U.S. citizens entering Mexico

Picking Baits

I often have people ask me why I use the lures that I use and why I fish the color lure that I do. The reason is simple. I also try to use a bait that matches the bait fish that are in that area. The bait I often like to start out fishing with is a B 52 bucktail. I like these because I can fish them a bunch of different way, If you haven't tried one you really should, just my You Tube Channel and you can see lots of video of me catching fish on them. Below a one of those videos, you can find B 52 bucktails at your local tackle shop and here on my on-line store.

Kids Fishing Club Meeting Tomorrow

It looks like the weather is going to be very ugly tomorrow, but I still have people calling about tomorrow's kids fishing club meeting at Legg Lake. I will be there even if it's pouring from 9-10AM tomorrow just in case some kids show up. If it rains like they say it will, then we will just stay in our club house for a short while and then call it a day. I hope we have better weather for April.

Permit to fish in Mexican waters is now good for six months!

Here's a new press release from Mexico, you will not need a Visa, but you will need a Permit to fish in Mexico, the good news is that the Permit will be good for six months! I'm happy to see that Mexico is working on this.

• There is no visa or new immigration requirement for sport fishing purposes. U.S.

citizens, permanent residents of the United States, and foreigners who carry any

type of valid U.S. visa do not require a Mexican visa to enter the country as

tourists for a period of up to 180 days.

• According to current regulations, US citizens that wish to enter Mexico for any

purpose, including sport fishing, must: (i) present themselves before migration

authorities in a port open for international transit of persons. Ensenada is

presently the nearest Mexican seaport to San Diego that offers this service; (ii) fill

out the Multiple Migratory Form (FMM); (iii) present a valid Passport or any other

valid form of government issued id; and make the tourist immigration rights

payment of $294 (Two hundred and ninety four Mexican pesos)

• Mexican law considers the possible participation of consignee agencies. Their

function is to support all administrative procedures, such as gathering

information, filling out forms and payment of fees. The hiring of the

aforementioned services for recreational or sport fishing vessels for private use is

not mandatory. Fees charged by consignee agencies are not part of the

government rates applicable to the issuance of various permits.

• It is also required for every person that intends to enter Mexico for sport fishing

activities to obtain the individual sport fishing permit, issued by the National

Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA). This permit may be

processed at: http://e5cinco.conapesca.gob.mx. Fees as of January 2012 are:

 1 day $110 Mexican pesos

 1 week $ 276 Mexican pesos

 1 year $ 553 Mexican pesos

 Excursion $ 787 Mexican pesos

• Commercial recreational or sport vessels, Mexican or foreign-registered, that will make use

of any Mexican port must obtain a permit for the provision of tourism services. This is issued

by the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) and must be requested in

advance to the corresponding Port Captain’s Office. This requirement is not applicable to

private vessels that engage in sport fishing in Mexican waters.

• The Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) is empowered to carry out inspections in local

and foreign vessels navigating Mexican territorial waters in order to ensure

compliance of applicable regulations.

The promotion of tourism to our country is one of the high priorities of the Mexican

government. Information will be provided in a timely manner about new measures to be

taken to facilitate the entrance of foreign tourist to our territory, including those tourists

that wish to do sport fishing in Mexican territorial waters

The after several hours of walking, take a break, have a meal and then go hit the booths that you wanted more info from. that should take up the rest of your day, in between you should attaend as many of the seminars that you can. This is a great show to not only see fishing tackle and boats, it's also a great place to learn how-to beome a better angler.

A VERY SAD DAY

Here's a message that was sent out today by our long time friend Chris Randel, owner of the Indian, This is Sad news, I'm going to miss fishing with Chris.

INDIAN SPORTFISHING IS GOING OUT OF BUISNESS

Hello everyone Today is a very sad day because the Indian is going out of business this March and will no longer be available for fishing trips. The company has been operating in the Red for several years now due to slow fishing seasons, high Fuel prices and a lot of new costly regulations on both sides of the border. This is a very unfortunate situation and we hope you understand our decision to close up shop and move on to bigger and better things. Sincerely,

Chris Randel
Indian Sportfishing Inc

GREAT MEMORIES - THOUGHTS OF THE GOOD OLD DAYS
There have been so many fantastic trips on the Indian over the past 15 years that a single one does not come to mind, but I sure will miss running a boat full of egar anglers out to the Tuna grounds. At day break you could feel the excitment in the air as we made our first stop and all heck broke loose with people running around yelling for a gaff and smiling at their friends when they caught a bigger fish. I would like to thank all of you for your patronage and support over the years and I hope you had as much fun on the water as we did.

CAPTAIN RANDEL IS GOING TO ALASKA
I am turning the page and heading North to the Grande Alaska Lodge in Seward this May and will be working as a fishing guide. This is something I have always wanted to do and here is my chance to see Alaska and tap into the great fishing for big Halibut,Lingcod,Salmon and Rockcod. The lodge is awsome and has several boats offering all kinds of trips from 1/2 day up to multi day off shore excursions.
