Outridder Fishing Report- It was an Awesome Day of Fishing!

Yesterday we had an awesome day of fishing at San Clemente Island aboard the Outridder, it was a filming trip for my TV program. We had very easy limits on calico bass, with a few fish over five pounds, we also had four white sea bass and a yellow, we did dump a few other yellows too. The fishing and the weather was perfect. I caught most of my fish on a 1/2oz B 52 bucktail and a pinned on live squid, I did also take some calico on fly linned sardines. Like I said it was as good as it gets for island fishing. Fishing Swap Meet

My youth foundation will be hosting a fishing swap meet this coming Sunday July 31st in Long Beach in the West Marine parking Lot. hours are from 8AM - 2 PM. Come on out and meet me and have a great time and at the same time you'll be supporting my youth foundation. I hope to see you all there.

Internet Fishing

The Internet is a great way to find out information about the weather, fish counts and lots of great how-to info too. What I don't like is that too many people use it to decide if they should go fishing or not. Yes the tuna counts are down a bit and finally now the fish counts are improving, but too many people don't want to go fishing for them until the are 1000's of fish in the counts. If I did that I never would go fishing. You should go every chance you get, I enjoy just bring out on the water, catching fish is a bonus.

This week the tuna counts have gotten a lot better, get out there and go fishing and support all those boats that are waiting to take you fishing. I'll be out on the water today, I have no idea what we'll be fishing for, but I do know I'll have a great time out there on the water.

Fishing the wall today

This morning I went out looking for sharks with a local guide here in Long Beach. The plan was troll arounds schools of bait fishing hoping a shark would eat one of the mackerels that we were trolling, after three hours we hadn't had one strike, so we decided to call it a morning and try it again another day. On the way in I stopped my boat along the LB breakwater and made a few cast, we only fished for a half hour, but I landed five nice calico bass which I released. I had several others chase my boat to the boat too. We didn't get a shark, but I had a great time landing calicos on hard jerk baits. You can see a picture of one of the calicos on my face book fan page.

Yesterday's Jr Fishing Club Meeting

Kids Fishing Club Meeting Tomorrow

Tomorrow at 9AM my youth foundation will be having a kids fishing club meeting at Legg Lake at our club house. plans are to spend about a half hour in our club house and then two hours fishing. Free Fishing Seminar This Thursday!

Native Son Recap

We had a fliming / fishing charter kast Sunday abaord the Native Son out of Long Beach, CA. We didn't have great fishing, but we did catch some nice sizes sand bass and a few calico and barracuda too.

I caught most of my fish on a 1oz. B-52 bucktail and a gulp bait attached. I also got two fish on live bait too.

Casino Night Fundraiser a big success.

Just wanted to thank all of you who made it to our Pirate Casino Night fundraiser over the weekend, thanks to your support it was a great success, thank you all for your help and support and the money we raised will help us to take kids fishing.

East Cape Fishing Report

Here's a fishing report from Hotel Buenavista, I'll be host a group trip down there starting on Aug 4th, you can see all the details on my website.

Inshore action dominated, with roosterfish being the most consistent catch. One client caught and released three in one day – 30-, 40- and 60-pounds. Meanwhile, Baja on the Fly hosted a group of fly fishers seeking roosters from the beach and all four anglers succeeded. When they left, they vowed that they would be returning for more roosters-on-the-fly next year.

Kershaw Pro Grade Series

This season I've been using a new Kershaw Pro Grade Series knife for cleaning fish on all my charters. Several of you have been asking me what they should use when they clean fish so I thought I'd share this with all of you. They have several new knives in there pro grade sreies and I hope to use the large ones later this year on yellowtail and tuna.

Fishing report form Long Beach, CA

Yesterday I went to down to my boat to finish up mounting a new wench. my dad had offered to help me finsh up the job, we had it all done by 11AM, so I asked him if he wanted to take the boat out to try it out. after a qiuck call to oneof the local kids the three of use were off fishing. Yes it was a late start, but I wasn't planning on a long run anywhere, I hit a few of the small rocks just out side of the breakwall, fishing was pretty good, my dad caught five sand bass and Sivee had three and some calicos too. I had a few calicos, sand bass and a shark, I lost a nice halibut close to the boat. later we fished inside the harbor at one of the wrecks, I guess I go to close to the spot as you can see in the picture of my anchor. All in all it was a great short three hour trip, pleanty of fish and I got to take my dad fishing too, plus we didn't have a film crew with me, it was just fishing for the fun of it, I really enjoyed it.
